Heart & Soul’d was not simply created but truly born out of love, family and two unique adoption stories. Two sisters, Terry and Kristen, chose to adopt at different times in their lives and wound up bringing home baby girls (Cat and Nina) on the same day in March, 14 years apart. We have always had the love and support of our brother Tom and parents (Tom and Pat), parents who lived through faith, family and philanthropy. After losing Tom and Pat only 9 months apart, it was clear to our family that our parents’ spirit of giving needed to be continued.
Adoption was not an easy road and requires a financial commitment many families cannot afford. We simply can’t imagine our families without the gift of adoption. We decided it was our calling to open Heart & Soul’d with the sole intention of helping other families become complete whether through foster care or adoption.
Through the sale of repurposed, new and gently used items, a portion of the profits from Heart & Soul’d will be donated to provide services to help foster and adoptive families in and around Delaware County.
Thank you for taking this journey with us!

It has been only one month and a few days since we officially opened our doors at 14 Park Ave. in the heart of Swarthmore. In this short time we have built relationships with so many of our neighbors like Lunchbreak Vintage, Closets to Closets, Executive Cleaners, Swarthmore True Value Hardware, Harvey Oak, Kandy Kids and the Lil' Nail Boutique. Terry has a favorite hoagie at Renato's Pizza and Kristen has a regular drink at Hobbs Coffee Shop.
Since opening on January 26th we've come to know some of our regular shoppers who range from Swarthmore students who have a keen eye for a great deal, to local families brining their kids in to spend their allowance or pick out a small weekly treat!
Perhaps some of our most rewarding interactions have been with those who have just met us, but yet feel so confident in trusting us enough to donate their items. Each treasure donated to us has a story and we honor those stories and are so full of joy when the right item finds a new home with right buyer!
All of these interactions can be described as inspiring, rewarding and sometimes just downright magical! We are also so grateful for the Park Avenue Community Center who hosted our first annual Fashion Show and to all of those who attended. We held this event just two weeks after our opening and had over 75 people in attendance! We thought we might be crazy taking on so many big events so close together but we are proud to say, crazy has paid off! We were able to raise $3,000 to gift to FosteringHope of Delaware County!
Whether you are our neighbor, a shopper, a volunteer, a donor or just someone watching this idea come to fruition, we sincerely thank you for your support! - Terry and Kristen
